In December, Sony added Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Biomutant, and Divine Knockout to the service across all tiers and they are pretty solid games, and if you are on PlayStation Plus Extra, then 17 new game titles were offered that you are allowed to keep for as long as you are subscribed to PlayStation Plus.  As December is about to end, a valid question arises: what’s next? Like what Sony plans to add to PlayStation Plus in January 2023, you will be pleased to read that we already know the games hitting the service in January 2023, even before the official announcement. Thanks to a well-known PlayStation Plus leaker, Billbil-kun, who posted on Twitter that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge will be coming to PlayStation Plus in January 2023.

— billbil-kun (@BillbilKun) December 23, 2022 It should be noted that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Axiom Verge 2 are natively available for PlayStation 5, which includes extra features like enhanced graphics modes and performance boost. However, Fallout 76 is not ported to next-gen consoles, so players who own PlayStation 5 will be playing the PlayStation 4 version of Fallout 76 via PlayStation Plus.

About Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is a 2018 online action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is an installment in the Fallout series and a prequel to previous entries. Fallout 76 is Bethesda Game Studios’s first multiplayer game; players explore the open world, which has been torn apart by nuclear war, with others.  Players may play individually or with a party of up to three others. The servers for the game are public dedicated servers, with the player automatically allocated to one of them. While the game was expected to launch with public servers only, executive producer Todd Howard revealed plans for private servers to be introduced sometime after the game’s launch.  Elements of previous Fallout games are present and are modified to work with the real-time game. The V.A.T.S. system (a mechanic in the series that allows players to target specific locations on an enemy’s body to attack, which previously paused the game temporarily) is used in Fallout 76 as a real-time system.

About Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a 2019 action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The story is set in the Star Wars universe, five years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. It follows Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, who becomes a target of the Galactic Empire and is hunted throughout the galaxy by the Imperial Inquisitors while attempting to complete his training, reconcile with his troubled past, and rebuild the fallen Jedi Order.  The players can use Kestis’ lightsaber and Force powers to defeat enemies ranging from stormtroopers to wild beasts that are native to each planet they explore. The game adopts a Metroidvania style of level design where new areas are accessed as Cal unlocks new skills and abilities.

About Axiom Verge 2

Axiom Verge 2 is a Metroidvania video game by American indie developer Thomas Happ Games. It is the sequel to Axiom Verge and was released on August 11, 2021, for Windows (exclusive to the Epic Games Store client), Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. The game was later released on Steam and PlayStation 5 in August 2022. Just like its predecessor, Axiom Verge 2 is a side-scroller action-adventure game. The player controls Indra Chaudhari, a mysterious billionaire. The gameplay borrows elements from games from the 1980s and 1990s such as Metroid, Contra, Blaster Master, and Bionic Commando, among others.  The game focuses on action and exploration, and features many items, enemies, and power-ups. Most of Indra’s power-ups come in the form of “Arms”, entities with various powers. Indra battles enemies either with weapons such as axes and boomerangs or by hacking them to alter their behaviors.  Her attributes such as health and attack power can be upgraded freely using Apocalypse Flasks scattered around the map. Unusually for a Metroidvania, most bosses are optional and can be bypassed with no consequence to progression.

Conclusion

While the credibility of the leaker is undoubted, it will still be wise to take this news with a grain of salt. As studios tend to change plans at the last minute if necessary.  What are your thoughts about the games coming to PlayStation Plus in January 2023? Are you looking forward to these games?
