Halo Infinite’s Cut-Content Shows Wildlife and Prometheans

The Halo Infinite single-player campaign revamps the two-decade-old series by returning to its roots and building upon its core gameplay and mechanics by adding new content, mechanics, and features. The franchise leaves its old linear gameplay to adopt an open world map all the while retaining classic gameplay both in its iconic vehicles and on foot. Players get to experience a level of combat never before seen in any previous installment in the franchise. Players can immerse themselves in the expansive open world and complete its overwhelming list of activities that allow them to earn more combat options. Though it doesn’t capture the environmental variety, some NPCs and wildlife, or the memorable story of the trilogy, it’s still a thrilling return for Microsoft’s mascot Master Chief. The Zeta Wildlife and the Forerunner Prometheans were featured in many prominent mainline Halo titles and players expected both of them to make an appearance in the game but that was not the case, despite showing up in Halo Infinite’s E3 Trailer. But we learned the truth thanks to recent leaks. We may never know why the developers chose to leave out the Zeta Halo fauna and the Promeathans from the title, but recent leaks suggest that the latter were supposedly going to be included in the game thanks to @leaks_infinite on Twitter. The recent leaks showcased some of the cut content with a series of videos that portray several enemies that never made it into the game, a pair of wildlife creatures including three Promethean units.

— Halo Leaks | Infinite Leaks & News (@leaks_infinite) August 26, 2022 The first of the creatures leaked featured Crusher, a huge and aggressive bipedal animal that consisted of a thick hide. The beast featured some Banished-themed armor plating and two thick and broad horns across its head. From speculation, we can assume that the creature was going to be a tamed creature used by the Banished to be later unleashed on Master Chief and his allies during battle. The unarmored version of the beast suggests that the game would’ve featured wild Crushers that would have been neutral or otherwise hostile towards the player and even the Banished for that matter. We also saw a rhinoceros-like animal back during E3 2018. The animal was relatively docile and neutral. Both animals featured some sound effects and basic animations but the rhino lacked decent walking animations and death animations. What’s strange is that the Prometheans feature highly detailed complex models fleshed out with complete animation and visual sets, but the caveat is that they lack textures and many of them don’t have sound effects. The three types that were found consisted of Soldiers, the medium armored mainline units of the group, the Watchers, fast and agile airborne support units, and tanky Warriors featuring powerful melee weapons and designated weak points that players would have to exploit in order to break down their armor. To think that different iterations of the soldier were discovered takes the fanbase and the gaming community by surprise. Some of the models featured reinforced protection and heavy weaponry like detached turrets. Halo Infinite‘s files also featured two different types of Watchers though both of them look nearly identical. It’s speculated that these character models were in the final stages of their creation and implementation of the game but the team leaders and directors decided to opt them out of the game at the last moment, which is a shame, to say the least. We can take a moment to think about how these creatures as well as the Prometheans would’ve impacted Halo Infinite’s campaign and gameplay experience for that matter. The game featuring large creatures probably hostile to the enemy and allied factions along with the remnants of Cortana’s Promethean army exploring Zeta Halo would’ve created a more dynamic and expansive open world. Perhaps developers simply didn’t have the time or resources required to incorporate them into the campaign in a way that would’ve proved meaningful to the storyline. Maybe it supposedly made the game a bit too chaotic. Maybe we’ll see the Prometheans and the Crusher make their way into some DLC content or even future iterations of the franchise. Halo Infinite is currently available for the PC and Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and Xbox Game Pass. Despite a few issues here and there, it’s undoubtedly one of the best Xbox shooters available on the market. It’s a perfect fit for gamers that still love the iconic arena-style FPS combat that was once a staple of the later 90s and early 2000s. Players can also enjoy the exhilarating campaign with its incredible gameplay and solid campaign that builds upon Master Chief’s long-running legacy. And that’s pretty much it for today on Appuals. Do you want to see the Crushers and Promeathans in DLC or upcoming Halo titles or do you think they wouldn’t matter all that much to make a difference in the game? Let us know in the comments below.
